2-Mercaptoethanol is a colorless transparent liquid with a special odor. It is toxic, flammable, and easily soluble in water, alcohol, ether and other organic solvents. The boiling point is 157°C and the flash point is 73.9°C. This product is mainly used as a telogen for high molecular materials such as polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylate, and a polymerization catalyst for high molecular synthesis, a cross-linking agent and a resin curing agent. It is an intermediate for the production of dyes and pesticides, a raw material for the pharmaceutical industry and the photochemical industry, an additive for the rubber, textile, paint and other industries, and can also be used as a metal corrosion inhibitor and passivator.
